Review For MOMA

(review) Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present

This show was very impressive and it was the best show I had seen recently along with the show of William Kentridge in MOMA. This show is about Body art more than Newmedia. The contents of the show were very aggressive or challenging. Most of the pictures, installed objects, performances and  projected movies were very graphic and raw. Especially, the live performance of IMPONDERABILIA(1977) , in which two naked performers were standing and facing each other and audience go through between them, was a good example the show.

The artist adopted a lot of film format but the ways which she use was ordinary not special. Some of the movie works were documentation and some of them were video works. It seemed that she focused on the content of the piece more than forms of work.

Her film work "HOLDING MILK" was the best work that integrates the form and  content of piece. In the film, the woman stand and  hold a bowl filled with liquid. At a grace the film was looked like a static picture or photograph. If audience looked carefully, the motion was barely recognizable. It makes me think of the historical context of woman. The attribute of the woman in the film such as cloth and bowl associate house works. In addition the motionless image associates the restriction toward women that were come from conventional idea of woman and also associates women's situation that is shackled by men socially and culturally. Furthermore, the motionless film make audience feel stress that also enhanced the context of the works.

Whitney Museum

review for the Whitney Biennial and artist

My thought of the Whitney Biennial was that I feel strong tendency or manipulation toward theme and artists choice. It was seems that Biennial choose optical art and art about human body. I did not find "something new" and I felt deja vu.

I was interested in New Media artist Edger Clejin. He was construct big cubic dark room and project multiple image with multiple projector. At the center of the cube there was a semi- transparent glass showing a rotating image of the face of John F Kennedy. And multiple projectors are casing  images on the walls occasionally.  So audience were surrounded by image.

The projectors were casting a image which has a reddish color. Therefor, I associated assassination of JFK.

But I thought that his work had a structural problem. The cube had four boor at each corner. therefor  the projectors did not cover the entire walls and projected images were looked like separate piece.

The idea of casting image on the glass was same as my artwork that I made for my Welding Class. Semi -transparent glass showed image better than transparent glass but it was not interesting appearance.

The things that I learn was that the heat that was emitted by the projectors that were located under the box chairs. They were warm even though the box had certain size. I think that if I make artworks that projector is embedded I have to really care for the air flow.

Over all, Whitney biennial was not so much impressive exhibition.

Difference of the rendering

The top image was redered by MentalRay with Ray Trace(Final Gather) and Depth Map Shadow and took 1 minute.

The bottom one was rendered by Mental Ray Only with Depth Map Shadow and took 24 second.

It not easy to compare since the bottom one has more contrast and dark.

Final Gather calculate the reflection; therefor the scene tends to brighter.

But compare the whale in these pictures, the final gather makes more realistic relation between floor and whale.

About Solar Energy in Japan

Summary; The article talk about the government tactics about using solar power.

It almost force people to use solar energy. Otherwise people have to pay twice as much as energy cost to power  plant companies.

It is a good example of using the issues of environment to improve economy along with global warming.
